      Care

Moonstone is a mineral from the feldspar family, a variety of orthoclase also known as adularia. It forms in igneous rocks that cool very slowly, during which the mineral separates into alternating microscopic layers of orthoclase and albite. These fine layers scatter light when it hits them, giving rise to the optical effect called adularescence — that bluish-silver sheen that seems to float beneath the surface and moves along with the stone.

Its name comes from this very play of light, long likened to moonbeams. The Romans believed it was frozen moonlight, and in India it has for centuries been considered a sacred, lucky stone. It enjoyed special popularity during the Art Nouveau period, when jewelers such as René Lalique turned it into collectible pieces. The most prized specimens, with intense blue adularescence, come from Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar.

The base color ranges from milky white to delicate shades of gray, cream, or peach, with a wavy translucence that gives it an almost magical air. Each stone is unique, and the iridescence shows most beautifully in direct light — which is why it is brought out best alongside 925 silver or white gold.

In crystal healing tradition, Moonstone is a symbol of femininity, intuition, and new beginnings. It is said to bring emotional balance, encourage creativity, and soothe the mind, often chosen as jewelry with personal meaning. It is also one of June’s birthstones.

With a hardness of 6–6,5 on the Mohs scale, Moonstone is more delicate than hard stones like sapphire or topaz, so it needs a bit of care. Keep it away from knocks and scratches, remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, or cleaning, and avoid contact with perfumes and chemicals. Clean it gently with a microfiber cloth.

Thanks to its discreet, luminous beauty, Moonstone is a perfect match for rings, earrings, and pendants worn every day, as well as pieces with a distinctive note. If you love delicate jewelry with personality and a story behind it, it’s a choice that never goes unnoticed.
