Turquoise is so popular, its name became a color
What is turquoise?
Turquoise is an opaque mineral whose hue can range from blue, blue-green, to green and green with hints of yellow. Thanks to its enchanting colors in which the stone occurs in nature, it has been a favorite of many civilizations since antiquity.
Typically, this vividly colored stone is found only in regions where the heat is scorching and the land is barren. Acidic, copper-rich water seeps through deep cracks. There, it reacts with other minerals, resulting in this earthly treasure called turquoise.
How to wear Turquoise?
Turquoise’s bold color doesn’t give us many options when it comes to outfits, but who doesn’t love a challenge? Broadly, we could say we have two options. The first is to choose a neutral-colored outfit so the stone can enjoy the attention it deserves.
The second option is to do the exact opposite! Let your imagination run free and try to find the opposing colors on the spectrum. Although it may sound bold, in the right amounts turquoise and mandarin orange can offer that contrast that will make you stand out.
Fun facts…
It’s no secret that many ancient South American civilizations possessed riches the world had never seen. They used gold as a base material even for mundane objects or simple decor. Yet, despite that, they valued Turquoise even more than the precious metal. Statues, jewelry, and other accessories were handcrafted by the most skilled artisans of the age and then dedicated to the gods themselves.
Today, Turquoise remains the only stone whose name also denotes a color. This phenomenon is otherwise found only with the most precious metals, such as gold and silver. It’s also said to suit those born in December and to bring the wearer a sense of calm and confidence.
